Well, hello there!
I’m so glad you’ve found my little corner of the internet. My name is Emily Ryan. (My maiden name is Emily Lofgren…and you can find that blog here.) I’m married to that sweet guy pictured above named Jonathan. He’s my favorite person, and I love doing life with him.
Here’s a bit of my story…
I graduated from Drake University in 2012 and then went on to spend a year and a half teaching English in Chengde, China. The experience was amazing!
After life in China, I returned back to the states and worked a few jobs (Starbucks barista, substitute teacher, church secretary) before getting a full time position in PR/communications. I loved my communications manager job and was excited for the future with the organization.
But God had other plans…
From college onward, my health gradually declined. I had taken steps to remain stable, using natural treatment like diet, exercise, sleep, supplements, essential oils, etc. And they worked, but only for a little while.
Eventually, after a trip to Cambodia to visit a missionary friend, my health declined to the point of debilitation.
My husband (then boyfriend) and I didn’t stop searching for answers. We walked through some incredibly tough times as he sought to love me well even when I became a shell of a person. After countless medical tests and physical exams, I was finally diagnosed with multiple conditions, including Lyme Disease.
Over and over, Jonathan pointed me back to God throughout the most difficult times of illness. He reminded me of my identity in Christ when I wasn’t sure who I was anymore.
I’m now mostly healed from illness thanks to God’s incredible provisions.
A big part of my healing journey involves using a program called the Dynamic Neural Retraining System.
Now, Jonathan and I are embracing newlywed life, and I’m working for a company called VIPKID where I teach English online for Chinese children.
What I write about…
As I continue to move forward with days of better health, I want to be purposeful in the way I live. I’ve learned a lot about the power of renewing your mind and hope to share some of that information with you. While I explore various topics here on the blog, I can imagine you’ll find content around marriage, newlywed life, faith in the real world, emotional health, good habits, productivity, and life beyond chronic illness.
I’m so glad we could connect!
